Idris Elba cancels a trip to South Africa because his daugther was denied a visa

2014 Social Good Summit - Day 1Hollywood actor and DJ, Idris Elba, has cancelled a planned trip to South Africa following his daughter’s failure to meet the country’s strict immigration requirements which were signed into law earlier this year.

The 43 year-old actor who played the role of Nelson Mandela in Mandela: A Long Walk To Freedom, was reportedly waiting in a business class lounge at Heathrow International Airport when he learnt that his daughter, Isan, could not travel as she did not have the necessary documents required by South African immigration laws.

“Idris was travelling with his daughter and only at the last minute it came to light she did not have the correct paperwork to enter South Africa. The trip to South Africa had to be cancelled as a result, ” confirms Anthea Petersen, A+E Networks Regional Director, Africa.

“He certainly wasn’t going to leave his 14-year-old daughter alone at the airport and made the decision to cancel the trip. He is very upset about the whole thing, as he loves South Africa and had no idea about the new laws,” a Channel24 was quoted to have said.

According to Channel24, Elba was due to arrive in South Africa on Sunday to promote his new film Mandela, My Dad and Me. The film is Elba’s journey of self-exploration inspired by the death of his father shortly before shooting began on the Mandela biographical film. Elba, an accomplished DJ, also recorded an album as a result of his involvement in the Mandela biopic.

Watch the trailer for the film below. It is scheduled to Air on History (DSTV Channel 186) on 6 December, 20:30 (UTC +02h00).

Nigga Try again we get denied or should I say dinied(as written by Africa Metro) by the Americans every time but we never give up we keep trying. If you really want to be in South Africa you have to try again, Americans used to getting things and they throw tantrums if things don’t go their way
