Blankets And Wine to Bring Zahara – Uganda

Blankets and Wine is back. You will remember the do for ushering Ugandans into the culture of wine tasting on mats/blankets. The show has in the past been headlined by Suzan Kerunen, Eric Wainaina, Freshly Ground, Kidum, Madtraxx and Liquideep, among others.

The tenth edition is set for September 27, and in a bid to outdo themselves, the organisers have gone for Zahara, one of Africa’s most promising organic performers.

She is synonymous with the guitar and predominantly sings in Zulu and English. The artiste, who has been associated with acts such as Tracy Chapman and India Arie, is one of South Africa’s most renowned artistes, thanks to her Loliwe debut album in 2011.

Announcing the development, Phoebe Nakabazzi, the brand manager, Tusker Malt Lager, the show’s sponsors, said: “Nine events down the road and the Blankets and Wine Kampala experience only keeps getting better. We are excited to have Zahara, an authentic Afro-Soul singer headlining this year’s event as we mark 10 events for what has become Uganda’s most anticipated event.”

Zahara’s talent has made her a household name with songs such as Phendula, Ndiza, Umuthwalo, Mandela and My Guitar, but it is Loliwe (Train) that many of her Ugandan fans easily relate with.

The event will still be held at the Uganda museum and organisers have promised an even bigger celebration since it is the tenth one. Zahara will share the stage with Lillian Mbabazi, her Sundowners band and A-Pass. Entrance fee is Shs 80,000, at the Uganda museum, and gates open at 12pm.
