Zimbabwean Designer, Unique Sibanda Wows At Africa Fashion Week London With Her Le Ekhaya Collection

Zimbabwean designer Unique Sibanda recently showed her collection Le Ekhaya to the hundreds who attended Africa Fashion Week London.

Her Autumn/Winter collection is a refreshing fusion, she effortlessly combines of throwback to the 60s and a subtle nod to Africa whilst still remaining really modern.

The collection is sexy yet elegant, strong yet gentle, extravagant yet subtle, its a great representation of how complex the modern is.

Unique, is a designer to watch she understands the modern woman, her designs are wearable but anything short of mundane.

Unique Sibanda: The Designer:

Its safe to say that I’ve been designing and tinkering with fabric since I was 6 years old. It has been my true passion to design and create amazing, well manufactured garments. I’m continuously learning and as I do, my passion for fashion grows..

Le Ekhaya was born from a love of all vintage and African prints. It’s a Ndebele phrase that means ‘back home’. A return to self and remembering what keeps me inspired… my home Bulawayo…My designs aim to evoke a nostalgic feel
The Story of Le Ekhaya:

My designs speak to and of the resilience and strength of the everyday woman in an era (the 50’s and 60’s) who expressed their defiance through styles that exuded elegance, chique, sexiness and joie de vive!

The Le Ekhaya woman says I am every woman and every woman is me.

The designs become a fusion that embodies the fierceness of the vintage woman, the fragility of the modern woman and the vision of the future woman
