Madonna spoted laughing with the Malawian President Peter Mutharika

Madonna was infamously branded ‘arrogant’ by former Malawian President Joyce Banda and sent packing from the country in April of last year following the row.But the superstar singer appears to get on a lot better with the new President, Peter Mutharika.During a meeting between the pair on Friday at the Malawi State house, Madonna was laughing away as she was thanked for her charitable efforts.Madona AfricaMetroThe 56-year-old was thanked by Mutharika for agreeing to FUND the construction of a new 50-bed Paediatric Surgery and Intensive Care Unit in the country’s commercial capital Blantyre.

Madonna, clad in a spotted black and white dress, shook hands with the President and saluted. The Material Girl hit-maker is thought to have arrived in Malawi on Wednesday, with children Mercy and David who she adopted from the country, as well as son Rocco.

Madonna apparently brought her adopted children to the meeting and the President is said to have thanked her for bringing them to visit their birth country.Madona AfricaMetro 2She told the President of his late brother Bingu wa Mutharika, who was in office until his death in 2012: ‘Thank you for welcoming me here. I was a big fan of your brother. He was very kind to us,’

Madonna, who has the charity Raising Malawi, has visited the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and appeared to spend a day at an orphanage prompting speculation she is planning on adopting another child.

The star funds orphanages in the country and is helping to fund schools and hospitals, and no doubt is pleased to have had her ‘Very Very Important Person’ status restored by President Mutharika who beat Joyce Banda in the May polls following last year’s dispute.

Banda attacked the pop star for being ‘arrogant’ and bizarrely accused her of being less well-mannered than footballers Gary Neville or Rio Ferdinand ‘despite their equally dazzling stature’.

A statement released by her office, which Mrs Banda later distanced herself from, accused the star of wanting Malawi ‘to be forever chained to the obligation of gratitude’ for her charity work.Madona AfricaMetro 3It also claimed Madonna who has been visiting the country since 2006 believed the country should have ‘rolled out a red carpet and blast the 21-gun salute’ upon her arrival.

Mrs Banda, whose sister Anjimile Ntila-Oponyo used to run Madonna’s Raising Malawi charity until her sacking over financial impropriety, stripped the singer of her VVIP status.-AfricaMetro
