400 feared dead after Chinese ship sinks

A ship carrying more than 400 people has sank in the Yangtze River in southern China, according state media reports.

The Xinhua News Agency said seven people had been rescued so far and work was under way to rescue the remaining passengers.

The vessel was travelling from the eastern city of Nanjing to Chongqing in the south-west when it sank.
At least 400 passengers and 42 crew were on board.

Rescue work is being hampered by strong winds and heavy rain, Xinhua reports.
