Nigeria, Sao Tome to Review Joint Development Authority

Buhari discuses with Sao Tome _ Principe PM, Patrice Emery Trovoada

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria and Sao Tome & Principe must meet soon to review the activities of their Joint Development Authority to make it more efficient and productive.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, quoted Buhari as said this yesterday while meeting with the Prime Minister of Sao Tome & Principe, Patrice Emery Trovoada.

He said Buhari noted that both countries also needed to intensify their collaborative efforts with others to curtail piracy and insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea.

Shehu said the president also stated that with their shared strategic interest in the security of the Gulf of Guinea, Nigeria and Sao Tome & Principe must work harder with other stakeholders to keep it safe.

According to him, Buhari noted that pirates who take advantage of the present low level of security in the gulf were causing incalculable damage to the economies of countries in the region.

He said Buhari assured the visiting Prime Minister that Nigeria would do all within its powers to enhance security in the Gulf.

Shehu also quoted the prime minister as telling Buhari that his country would welcome a meeting next year to review the management of the Joint Development Authority.
