Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has reassured Nigerians that all those who looted the nation’s treasury would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Speaking when he paid courtesy visit to the Emir of Katsina during his official visit to the state, Buhari said his administration would not betray the trust of Nigerians.

“We will not betray trust and we will not let those who betray the trust of Nigerians go scot-free except the ones we don’t know,” he said, even as he asserted that his administration’s war against corruption was not a witch-hunt.

Buhari who spoke in Hausa said: “We are not out to victimise anyone but we are bent on ensuring justice”.

He recalled that over two million Nigerians were killed during the 30-month Nigerian Civil War and lamented that “but recently, some people who were not even born then are saying they want to divide Nigeria.

“I always say the civil war was fought for the unity of Nigeria because then we hadn’t even discovered oil let alone enjoy, but two million people were killed.”

He assured that his administration will do all that is possible to ensure the continuous existence of Nigeria as a peaceful and united entity.

The president admitted that he was aware of the difficulties Nigerians were passing through and said government was doing everything possible to change the fortunes of the nation.

He urged Nigerians who have land to engage in farming “while those who don’t have should learn trade.”

Earlier in an address, the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir, had accused the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan of abandoning the contract for River Niger dredging, noting that “in-land waterway is the wealth of the nation.”

Emir Kabir urged residents, especially the Hausa-Fulani, to intensify prayers for the Buhari administration.

“We know there are saboteurs but we will finish them with prayers,” the Emir said.

He also requested the renovation of dams in the state to boost irrigation farming and water supply.

Our correspondent reports that PMB was in the state to declare open a three-day investment and economic summit aimed at unlocking the investment potentialities of the state.
