A grand total of 40 goals were scored on the night in the Uefa Champions League with Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayern Munich both netting seven, while Chelsea bagged six.
Away to FC BATE, Shakhtar set a new record by becoming the first side to score six first-half goals in the Champions League, and Adriano, in netting five, equalled Lionel Messi’s record for goals scored by an individual in a Champions League match.

Spare a thought for Ivorian striker Gervinho; Roma’s brightest player on the night, his goal after the hour was the first past Manuel Neuer in nine matches – to no avail.
