The suspect was arrested on Saturday by police after he allegedly stabbed 23-year-old Chumani Nqakula on Saturday at Bezuidenhout Valley, Johannesburg.

The suspect, who was reportedly known by Chumani, will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Defence and Military Veterans Ministry spokesperson Nonzukiso Peter said the Nqakula family has not taken the news well.

“The Minister is not coping well. She has had to cut short her visit.”

The Minister was on an official visit to Bangkok when she received the news of her son’s death.

“May God give the entire family the comfort and peace they require during this difficult time,” said Peter.

She said additional details on the matter, including funeral arrangements, will be communicated in due course.

Chumani is the son of Mapisa-Nqakula and former Cabinet Minister and High Commissioner to the Republic of Mozambique Charles Nqakula.
