Samsung Corporate Citizenship aims further by improving access to education through Digital Transformation

In keeping with Samsung’s goal to enrich and transform lives through digital technology, the electronics giant today reiterated its commitment to advancing access to technology in education across Africa.

Speaking at the Samsung Africa Forum 2017, Ms. Sthembile Shabangu, head of Public Relations and Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Electronics, Africa Office notes: “In today’s digital era, any community, especially disadvantaged areas, will benefit from hands-on experience with technology. Our aim is to make sure that every African child has access to education, no matter where they are – be it in a rural area lacking infrastructure or perhaps in an existing infrastructure that lacks educational resources – by providing access to technology.”

As a global citizen, Samsung uses its education technology to give back to society in two ways: by creating new learning opportunities so that young people can enjoy access to better education; and by supporting youth employment through vocational training and skills development.

To date, Samsung have launched 10 Digital Villages, 33 Solar-Powered Internet Schools (SPIS), 27 eLearning Centres, 22 Smart Schools, 12 Engineering Academies and 8 Digital Libraries across Africa and plans to establish more this year.

In an eco-system: collaboration takes you further

Samsung is at the forefront of using its resources and expertise with efforts to help the continent achieve its Sustainable Development Goals. “Work of this nature can never be achieved in isolation. Collaboration with communities, governments and NPOs become critical in making sure that any Corporate Citizenry efforts move that much further. We are encouraged by the sustainable partnerships we have with UNESCO, KOICA and KERIS to name a few.”

Samsung works with educators around the world to improve learning experiences through the use of technology, facilitating a limitless classroom environment that gives students access to a world of knowledge from their desks or on the go. This is made possible by solutions designed with Africa in mind, namely the Solar Powered Internet Schools, Smart Schools and E-Learning Academies, which provide solutions that deliver on this vision and improve the quality of learning, enhance teaching effectiveness and allow administrators to run institutions more effectively.

Samsung’s Engineering Academy and Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Academy provide free, intensive, hands-on training to graduates. The Academies seek to develop skilled young African leaders who are adequately prepared for the world of employment. The programme forms a core part of Samsung’s vision to fast-track the entry of African youths into the electronics job market and to reduce the shortage of scarce skills in the IT industry.

“Investing in the skills of the youth also benefits Samsung, The more young people we can develop in the electronics industry, the better it is for us and our customers who can be assured of our ability to provide excellent service,” adds Shabangu.

Samsung uses its talents, skills and technologies to make a positive impact on the world, helping to shape a smart, sustainable future for all. Its products and solutions give consumers and businesses alike new ways to connect and experience the world. From connected classrooms that take learning to new digital heights, to providing world-class technology in remote places, Samsung is addressing some of the most basic and complex challenges of today.

Samsung’s Wind-FreeTM Air Conditioner Offers Better Cooling at Lower Cost

Samsung’s award-winning Wind-Free™ wall-mounted air conditioner is the ideal appliance for overcoming Africa’s traditionally warm and humid climate. The new AR9500M air conditioner has Samsung’s exclusive Wind-Free™ Cooling technology integrated into its design, which enables customers to obtain both a cooler indoor climate and optimal energy efficiency, without having to experience uncomfortable direct airflow.

“The cool and efficient air conditioning capabilities of the AR9500M are ideal for tackling the African heat, while at the same time optimising your electricity bills. Moreover, the appliance eliminates the usual discomfort associated with air-conditioners, that of having cold wind blowing directly out of the machine,” says Michael McKechnie, Director: Digital Appliances at Samsung South Africa.

The AR9500M is designed to provide customers with ideal room conditions, by maintaining a comfortable temperature while using Wind-Free™ Cooling to gently disperse cold air through 21,000 micro air holes.

The two-step cooling system means that temperatures are initially lowered rapidly in ‘Fast Cooling Mode’, before the system automatically switches to ‘Wind-Free™ Cooling Mode’, which creates ‘still air’ once the desired temperature is reached. This approach can also reduce energy consumption by up to 72%.

Using Samsung’s new Digital Inverter 8-Pole with POWERboost technology™, the AR9500M’s motor generates fewer torque fluctuations. This reduces the overall energy required and shortens the time needed for the compressor to reach its maximum speed (Hertz).

The air-conditioner is Wi-Fi-enabled, meaning that it can be controlled from anywhere, through Samsung’s Smart Home app using a Samsung mobile device. Users can remotely regulate temperature, adjust settings, receive real time updates about performance and daily energy usage, as well as troubleshoot solutions when a repair is necessary.

“In addition to its lower energy consumption and rapid cooling properties, the AR9500M’s unique Triangle Architecture has a wider inlet, allowing more air to be drawn in at once. At the same time, the optimal width and angle of the outlet, extra v-blades and large fan – 22% larger than previous models – ensures that air is cooled and expelled faster, farther and wider, to reach every corner of the room,” McKechnie concludes.

New Samsung Soundbar Delivers Incredible Sound and less clutter

In keeping with its focus on delivering only the highest quality user-driven home audio-visual technology, in products that are both sleek and simplistic in design, Samsung is proud to announce the new MS750 Soundbar.

“Samsung has over ten consecutive years of market leadership in home audio and video technology and we always strive to deliver more. In this case, the MS750 Soundbar supplies a crisp and immersive sound, wherever you are in your home,” says Lance Shaun Berger, Business Unit Head: TV/AV at Samsung South Africa.

Making use of Samsung’s Proprietary UHQ 32bit Audio Technology and the company’s own audio algorithms to expel perfect ultra-high quality sound, the MS750 Soundbar is able to deliver rich audio that brings each note to life with incredible clarity, providing a powerful home cinema experience.

The deeper sense of immersion delivered by the MS750 Soundbar is a result of superior up-firing capabilities and overhead sound that uses vertical tweeters with upmixing technology. When paired with the Samsung Smart Remote Control, the room’s home audio is powered by the same device as the TV, further simplifying the home entertainment experience.

“The device’s small but robust ‘one body’ means that it can be mounted onto your TV with a single connection; there is no complicated setup and no extra space required,” Berger adds. In addition, this means that the soundbar and TV can be turned on at the same time. Simply connect the two units with a designated power cable connection, eliminating the need for two separate power cables. It is the answer to that clutter around the TV. The wall-mount solution on Samsung’s newest home audio systems has also been improved, with an optional, user-friendly I-shaped bracket connecting the TV directly to the soundbar. This approach simplifies the mounting experience entirely as it requires only one connection to install it to the TV and one hole in the wall.

The MS750 Soundbar is a perfect accompaniment to your audio-visual entertainment system at home. Not only does it simplify the setup, with less cables and connections, but it also includes the benefit of exceptional sound quality of the highest standard, and ensures a sound experience like no other. And, to boot, it is a beautiful piece of technology, which will seamlessly fit into your living space and enhance the overall look.

“The MS750 Soundbar is designed for the listener that wants a single, simple solution that not only fits their lifestyle, but that simultaneously delivers an unparalleled home audio experience,” concludes Berger.
