President Lungu to Meet Mining Executives to Halt Job Losses

President Edgar Lungu has laid out meetings with three major mining firms on the Copperbelt to halt job losses in the country’s largest money spinner industry.

The Head of State is on the Copperbelt on a working visit and has spread his wings around the province combing through the mining towns.

President Lungu will meet owners of Mopani Copper Mines, Konkola and China Non Ferrous Mining Corporation.

The Copperbelt has been thrown in turmoil with plummeting Copper prices that has exposed the region to anxiety over job security.

So far 5, 000 miners have lost their jobs across the three giant firms while 1, 600 workers have been put on forced leave.

President Lungu had a meeting with the four trade unions representing the mines to map out a way to mitigate the impending job losses.

He urged them to put the worker’s interests high when they go to the negotiating table.
