Malawi President Peter Mutharika has rebuffed calls made by Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe urging African countries to pull out from the International Criminal Justice (ICC).

Spokesperson for Malawi’s Foreign Affairs ministry told the press that the Mutharika administration will not jump in the bandwagon as the country remains committed to the Rome Statute of the ICC even if it means being the only member from Africa.

President Robert Mugabe who also serves as chairperson of the African Union and SADC has been ganging up support from other head of states to withdraw from the court saying it exists only to victimise African leaders.

But Malawi government spokesperson in the foreign affairs ministry said Malawi which joined the ICC in 1999 does not agree with Mugabe’s sentiments and that the country remains committed to virtues of the international court.
