Namibian Student Develops The Country’s Own Social Networking Service: Namhook

A 22 year-old Namibian man raised the Namibian flag high after he developed Namibia’s first homegrown social network app for the Namibian people.

Namibian whizz-kid, Gerson Mangundu, currently studying information technology in Cuba, has developed Namibia’s own social network service called Namhook.

According Mangundu, the development of the service which took him a whole year to conclude, did not come on a silver platter as it required a great deal of hard work and sleepless nights something that was extremely challenging for him as he had to divide his time between developing the app and school work.

The IT student described Namhook app as “a network of networks” which has all the features found on giant networks plus its own unique features.

He added that it will go a long way in helping the Namibian people to connect and stay in touch with all their families and friends who live in the country and the world over.

Namhook which was designed as a social media hub is not just a socialising service as it plays a pivotal role in the country’s business platform where it has helped Namibian businesses reach a wider market in the country via its online shopping hub.

“We are also launching safe online shopping where shops in Namibia will be able to sell their products to the rest of the nation via Namhook hence helping them expand their business,” explained Mangundu clarifying that their mission is to get all Namibians to connect to their app which has about 2 130 members currently.

The app has also come in handy in solving many problems that the upcoming local businesses usually face, by providing a platform for free advertisements and also for artists to sell their songs on the web to their fans rather than vending on the streets to sell their CDs.

The site which went live in January 2015 has, so far, received good feedback.
