Government through the Presidential Advisor on Civil Society, Mavuto Bamusi has embarked on consultation meetings with civil society organizations (CSOs) to amass inputs which can contribute to effective implementation of Community Technical Colleges Initiative.

Speaking Tuesday during a consultative meeting with Ntcheu Non-governmental Organizations Net-work, Bamusi said President Professor Arthur Mutharika has provided such a platform in recognition of the roles which non-governmental organizations play in contributing to the development of the country and to promote inclusiveness the country’s’ development agenda.

“Government needs your input to ensure that the Community Technical Colleges Initiative serves Malawians better before the initiative rolls out to all districts,” he said.

Bamusi said it is government’s commitment to ensure that rightful and deserving youths benefit from the initiative by making the initiative apolitical, hence advised civil society organizations to be part and parcel of all beneficiary identification processes.

On the status of human rights, Bamusi said government is fully committed towards improving the country’s human rights records by among other things improving prisons’ living conditions.

“In-mates should not be punished twice by serving sentences and by being denied food. Every person regardless of his or her status is entitled to dignity and government has to ensure that all Malawians enjoy their rights,” said Bamusi.

He said whilst government appreciates poor living conditions in prisons, resources remains a challenge to revert the situation.

Bamusi also assured the civil societies of the President’s stand on the importance of dialogue and that he does not believe in being in conflict and tension with CSos saying dialogue is the best democratic and meaningful approach to developmental inclusiveness.

The Presidential advisor then called on CSos to avoid creating unnecessary divisions amongst themselves and urged them to be professional and use dialogue in advocacy other than emotions to avoid misleading the public.

Commenting on the development, Vice Chairperson of Ntcheu Non-governmental Organization Net- Work, Alinafe Chikakuda commended the President for creating the forum through which ideas of CSos can be forwarded to the President.

Chikakuda therefore appealed to Government to speed up National Registration and Identification Programme to ensure that each and every citizen is provided with an identity card.

“It is through such an intervention that only deserving Malawians can benefit from government programmes. In Ntcheu government serves such as education, health among others are also enjoyed by Mozambicans and this is unfair to tax payers,” said Chikakuda.

Chikakuda, who is also Ntcheu District Civic Education Officer, said the Community Technical Colleges Initiative is a step towards the creation employment amongst the youths.

“This initiative if well implemented can as well create a gate way to tertiary education to some of the beneficiaries,” she said.
