Christopher Katongo Warns The Chipolopolo Against Underrating Kenya In Sunday’s 2017 Africa Cup Of Nations Qualifier

FORMER national team skipper Christopher Katongo has cautioned the Chipolopolo against underrating Kenya in next Sunday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.Katongo said in an interview in Lusaka on Thursday that Kenya are not pushovers.

“Just look at Namibia. They beat us at the Cosafa Championship because we underrated them. Football is developing worldwide and there are no underdogs,” he said referring to the 5-4 loss on penalties to eventual winners Namibia in the quarter-finals.

The 2012 Africa Cup winning captain said Kenya has developed over the years. He said the Kenyan players have been together for a long time and could rise to the occasion if underrated.

“That team [Kenya] has been together for a long time. They have competed at the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Championships several times. They have also played in many Kagame Cups so they are a good side,” Katongo said.

He said losing to Kenya could complicate Zambia’s qualification journey to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals.Katongo is, however, confident the Chipolopolo will overcome the Harambee Stars.

“I know Kenya is a tough side but I think we will beat them if we prepare well. I can just wish the boys and the technical bench all the best. Otherwise we should all support the team,” he said.
