China Helping To Empower Batswana

The relations between Botswana and China have grown stronger

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, has hailed the persistence of Chinese embassy on empowering Botswana’s future though a well-trained human capital.

Mr Autlwetse was speaking during the handing over ceremony of 250 sets of desks and chairs, eight boards, cumulatively at the tune of P250 000 donated by Chinese embassy to Dinokwane Primary School at Serowe recently. Also, the embassy donated two desk top computers and 6 footballs on the day.

The assistant minister said it was once again the persistence by the Chinese government in bettering the lives of children by investing further in Botswana’s education system.

Through this donations, Mr Autlwetse said the Chinese Embassy was empowering future well trained human resource, testimony to the adage ‘lore lo ojwa lo sale metsi’ “Truly, if we invest in our children’s education system from tender age meticulously, we can turn around our education system for the better,” said Mr Autlwetse.

Furthermore, he said this milestone undertaking in his ministry was brought by the generous partnership between China and Botswana government in appreciating the value of advancing the teaching and learning conditions in Dinokwane primary school.

The assistant minister noted that his ministry has adopted a deliberate spirited turnaround strategy to revitalise the education system through robust early child hood education.

The illustrious partnership between the ministry and the Chinese Embassy, he added, cultivates a ground whose fruits shall never come to an end, adding that ‘a human development whose dexterity you shall come to admire.’

“Your curriculum and work culture inspire us greatly and indeed we are blessed to be benchmarking from the best,” he said.

He told the beneficiaries that a rare opportunity had availed itself and advised them to exploit the availed resources to improve their academic result.

Government loses millions of pulas through vandalism which occurs primarily as a result of lack of ownership by individuals, he said. He advised them to value the property the same way they would value their property at home.

Mr Autlwetse called on teachers, students and private sector to solidify their partnership to overcome the increasingly expensive education. Parents were also reminded that ‘charity begins at home’ hence the need to raise children with Botho and instill in them a sense of worth and determination.

The Ambassador of China to Botswana, Mr Zheng Zhuqiang said Dinokwane primary school is one of the excellent examples of the cordial bilateral relationships that exist between Botswana and China.

Mr Zhuqiang said since 2010, their embassy had been providing necessary assistance to improve the school condition and it was 2014 when they adopted it.

He expressed hope that the donation would advance teaching conditions and help students to improve their study performance.

The Chinese Ambassador said Botswana and China enjoy excellent and fruitful cooperation in areas of education, health, trade, human resource development and culture exchanges.

The Central District Council chairperson, Mr Peter Williams was delighted that his district council continues to reap the juicy fruits yielded by the twinning relationship between governments of China and Botswana.

Mr Willams said the donation was a sign that although the two nations are geographically far apart they are one in development and also subscribe to the millennium development goal at the heart of which human capital investment takes the center stage.

The furniture donated, he said would be utilised to the maximum and nurture talent from which China would benefit in future. For her part, the school head, Ms Gaotwesepe Ramaja said the furniture would go the long way in promoting education.

“Today, it does really resemble education empowerment at its best,” said Ms Ramaja.

She commended the Chinese government through its embassy, saying their contribution and efforts to educate Batswana cannot go without notice. Ms Ramaja pleaded with the Ambassador to consider building at least classrooms for pre-school learners.
