Zimbabwe Wins Against Bangladesh

Australia v Zimbabwe - ICC Twenty20 World ChampionshipZimbabwe finally converted a good start into a win by 31 runs in their third Twenty 20 international of the Walton Series against Bangladesh at the Played at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna on Wednesday

Vusi Sibanda(44) and captain Hamilton Masakadza(20) were again aggressive as they rushed to 45 before the fall of the first wicket as the latter tried to take advantage of early fielding restrictions. What was particularly annoying though was that it came on the back of four 4s for Masakadza who has impressed since his return to the fold.

The tigers pegged the run rate back a bit after Mutmbami fell but Malcolm Waller who fell a run short of his 50 with Sean Williams(32) brought middle order that had been disappointing to the party.

Zimbabwe ended their innings with an imposing 187-6, their third highest ever total.

The returning Tendai Chisoro gave the Chevrons the perfect start as he picked his first wicket in the over.

Brian Vitori then conceded heavily and it was not until 67 runs later before Zimbabwe made the breakthrough as Greame Cremer (3-18) grabbed his standard wicket as he removed the steady-looking Soumya Sarkar for 25.

Sabbir Rahman reached his half century before Sikandar Raza. who grabbed 2 wickets and conceded 7 runs in his 2 overs, struck.

It was in those middle overs where Zimbabwe won the match as they restricted Bangladesh and took wickets regularly restricting the Tigers to 150-6 in their allotted 20 overs to record their biggest win against a full side.

The big worry would have been how poor Vitori and Tatenda Muzarabani were with the ball as they often gave the hosts relief in their run chase.

Waller, Masakadza, Sibanda, Waller and an emerging PJ Moor look to be benefiting from the recent inclusion of Marvan Atapattu in the technical team as batting coach. It is not just that they are scoring runs but how they are connecting the ball with the willow.

With regular captain Elton Chigumbura sitting out again for a second match in a row, it will be difficult to demand an inclusion on form.

Reference may be made to the fact that the hosts made 5 changes but Zimbabwe won’t mind. Zimbabwe have made changes themselves and Masakadza says there will be more in the final match as the team prepares for the T20 World Cup.

It i also Bangladesh’s first loss at the stadium apparently. The final match is on Friday.

Man of the match: Malcolm Waller

We have been posting some pretty good scores and just coming short so it is great to come right.
