Sahrawi Foreign Minister Denounces ‘Moroccan Intransigence’ Towards International Legitimacy

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek has strongly denounced Moroccan intransigence towards the international legitimacy, calling on the United Nations to further efforts to hold a referendum of self-determination to the Saharawi people at press conference in the Sahrawi Embassy in Algiers.
Mohamed Salem Ould Salek urged the United Nation and the international community to “assume its responsibilities” to enable the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination calling the UN to impose sanctions on the Kingdom of Morocco to respect the international laws.
On the other hand, the Sahrawi diplomat underlined the importance of the African Union position at the continental and the international level, highlighting the most important points included in the legal opinion of the African Union, which emphasizes that “Morocco is an occupation state and has no sovereignty and no right to administrate the territory which is subject to decolonization.
It should be recalled that the African Union legal position comes after the recent summit in Johannesburg, South Africa requesting the United Nations to set a date for the referendum as it is the international body charged of decolonization, as well as the lifting of all obstacles to ensure the respect of human rights and to stop looting natural resources of Western Sahara.
