Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa speaks on Mugabe links

MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa says he will not stop former President Robert Mugabe from voting for him as he is building a national project.

There have been unconfirmed claims in state media that Chamisa and Mugabe are working together to in a bid to defeat President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the impending elections.

It is reported that under the deal, Mugabe will offer support for Chamisa’s Presidential bid provided he appoints Grace Mugabe as Vice President of the country.

However, addressing party supporters during an election campaign rally at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera, Chamisa refuted the claims, adding that his government is going to be new and composed of a competent team.

“Vote has no age, vote knows no party and it has no colour, we are building a national project and I am very clear that when I lead the country, I will be leading a country that will have Robert Mugabe in it, Emmerson Mnangagwa in it and Chiwenga in it but only as retirees and pensioners of our country.

“People are failing to understand the love that I have and the way I am extending my hands, well I don’t choose people who will vote for me, if Mugabe wants to vote for me, the vote is welcome, but my government is going to be a properly new government, which is going to have a fresh start, new policies, new politics, we are starting the new path towards a taking the country forward,” he said.

Chamisa added that he is confident of an outright victory and trashed a possibility of what happened in 2008 when the Presidential election had to go to a runoff after the parties failed to get the required 50 per cent plus one vote.

He urged his supporters to ignore falsehoods being carried in state-owned media outlets, adding that “I know we are forming the government, it’s going to be a landslide, others are saying it’s going to be a runoff, there will not be any runoff but there will be a run over Mnangagwa, we will walk on his back going to the new Zimbabwe.

“So don’t listen to falsehoods being peddled by state media, you will see our government, we have a competent team, we are going to have all races in our team, we are going to have all tribes in the team, and not bring our homeboys like what Emmerson Mnangagwa is doing.

“The whole country must have leaders from all the provinces and all the regions, all the tribes being represented and not having hegemony of a particular tribe which is a mistake of our country,” he said.
