Egypt to release 1,118 prisoners following presidential pardon
Egyptian authorities today announced the release of 1,188 prisoners after a presidential pardon was issued for the second time in a week.
It is unknown whether any of those released were being held on political grounds, however, the Ministry of the Interior said 395 inmates were to be released as a result of the pardon and a further 723 received conditional release.
Conditional release often means the detainees must have served the minimum term in jail.
In May, Al-Sisi pardoned 332 prisoners accused of taking part in demonstrations.
