German magazine Der Spiegel has claimed Real Madrid football star Cristiano Ronaldo agreed to pay £300,000 to a woman who accused him of rape.
In documents, reportedly sent to Der Spiegel by Football Leaks, it is claimed the woman agreed to keep silent about the alleged incident.
The magazine alleges that the Portuguese international, 32, agreed to pay $375,000 to a woman in the United States.
It comes after she accused him of having raped her at a luxury hotel in Las Vegas on June 13, 2009, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
The paper also reported the alleged documents and attributed the source as being Der Spiegel and Football leaks.
According to these documents, both sides agreed an out-of-court settlement on January 12, 2010 in front of a Nevada mediator, El Mundo says.
Portuguese lawyer Carlos Osorio de Castro, the star’s lawyer for many years, is said to have signed in Cristiano’s name.
Ronaldo is referred to as Mr D in the three-page document, while the alleged rape victim is referred to as Ms P.
Der Spiegel contacted Ronaldo, who has responded through his lawyer in Munich, Johanes Kreile.
He said: ‘Judging by the questions asked, the accusations must be strongly rejected because they are incorrect.’
The lawyer also said that his client would take ‘legal action against false statements and any impairment of his personal rights.’
Meanwhile, Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias said it understood the woman at the centre of the extraordinary claims was given ‘hush money’ to keep quiet about an affair, not a supposed rape.It did not specify where its information had come from.
