Daesh executes 6 hours after kidnapping them near Mosul

Daesh executed six people including two pro-government fighters hours after kidnapping them in an ambush south of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported.

Captain Abdul Khaliq Al-Aifan from the Rapid Response Force told the news agency: “Daesh militants disguised in military uniform have erected a fake checkpoint on the road between the village of Ain Al-Azab and the Al-Jazirah village south of the city of Mosul and checked the identity papers of vehicle owners, in order to identify members of the security forces or important figures.”

“The terrorists have kidnapped four civilians and two members of the tribal crowd forces and killed them hours later,” he said adding that the militants dumped the victims’ bodies in the desert.

Al-Aifan added that a counter-terrorism unit accompanied by a criminal security team arrived at the crime scene and inspected the victims’ bodies. There was evidence that they had been shot in the ack of the head while their hands were tied behind their backs.

“The terrorists did not steal the victims’ IDs or personal belongings which indicates that their criminal act aims to spread fear among the population and that the group is still able to carry out operations against vital targets,” he added.

Security forces are now searching for the perpetrators, Al-Aifan said.

Last December, officials in Baghdad declared victory against Daesh. However the group has maintained active cells which have committed a number of attacks in the country.
