Poliomyelitis Eradication

Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform Abdelmalek Boudiaf has reiterated Monday Algeria’s commitment to eradicating poliomyelitis in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), adding that no case has been recorded since 1996.

Boudiaf, who chaired the opening session of the Africa Regional Certification Commission (ARCC) for Poliomyelitis Eradication, being held in Algiers from 27 June to 1 July, underlined Algeria’s commitment to eradicate the disease.

The minister hails the mobilization by public authorities of all players in the fight against polio, in accordance with WHO’s recommendations, recalling the budget allocated by the State to that end.

Boudiaf also underlined the unprecedented mobilization of all professionals in the sector of health and the successful efforts in replacing the trivalent oral polio vaccines with the bivalent oral polio vaccines, in accordance with WHO’s recommendations.

Algeria would be certified polio-free by the WHO in November after the presentation of the first report during the current meeting of the ARCC.
