The world’s hottest dancefloor at the Cannes amfAR Gala
It was certainly a sight to behold as the lovely ladies – and Blurred Lines star Robin – thrust their hips and threw their long and lean arms around to to the beat.Supermodel and Keeping Up With The Kardashians starlet Kendall, 19, flaunted her enviable figure in a dark mauve Calvin Klein Collection crop top and full skirt, with a string detail cutting across her trim torso.Meanwhile, 31-year-old Dutch model Lara’s Amazonian figure looked incredible in the shimmering gold dress, which was finished with a deep plunging neckline coming from slender spaghetti straps, giving her the opportunity to flaunt her ample assets.Karlie, 22, dressed her svelte figure in a loose-fitting silver sparkling dress by Tom Ford, complete with a stylish cut-out on the neck, giving the effect of a choker.Dutch model Doutzen Kroes, 30, made quite the statement in a shapeless but stunning scarlet gown by Margiela, which was loose enough to help her really get her groove on at the energetic party.Representing the Brits was 24-year-old Jourdan Dunn, who looked utterly incredible in her deep, dusky blue Vera Wang gown.
Meanwhile, Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls, 26, worked a low-cut Givenchy black dress, which clung neatly to her lithe curves. And, at one point during their evening of merriment, the girls were fantastically photobombed by photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, who snuck into one of their pictures like a truly cheeky partygoer.Earlier in the evening, they had all walked the red carpet on their way into the event, showing off their respective designer gowns, most of them flaunting either their chests, legs or both in their gowns. This year is the 22nd annual Cinema Against AIDs black-tie gala at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, situated just half an hour drive from Cannes.Last year’s event raised a record $35 million for amfAR, a foundation dedicated to ending AIDS through research. As well as the live auction – which saw, among many other items, a Harry Winston cluster necklace up for grabs – the event also included musical performances and a fashion show.Meanwhile, although Rita Ora didn’t hit the dancefloor with the gaggle of models in the midst of proceedings, she did make sure to cosy up to fellow Brit Jourdan, and US superstar Kendall. The 24-year-old singer had impressed in the sartorial stakes earlier in the evening as she stalked the red carpet in her scarlet red Marchesa gown, complete with over-the-top ruffles and a racy slit in the skirt. The night – billed as the most glamorous evening during the 11-day long annual film festival saw models Gigi Hadid, Toni Garrn, Irina Shayk, Karolina Kurkova, Izabel Goulart and Adriana Lima take to the catwalk for the black and white themed fashion show, which was curated by fashion editor and amfAR supporter Carine Roitfeld. There was also a lively auction, which aimed to raise money in order to fund life-saving research into cures for HIV and AIDs.The likes of Rita Ora, Robin Thicke, Aishwarya Rai Bachachan and several of the top models took to the stage to talk about the charity’s work and announce the various luxury lots up for grabs, which included diamond jewellery, several works of high-priced art and idyllic vacations to name a few.One of the night’s big spenders was Eva Longoria, who was excited to have bought a portrait of Elizabeth Taylor by Andy Warhol for a cool 550,000 Euros. The petite former Desperate Housewives star who has been at the festival as one of the many L’Oreal ambassadors looked amazing as she graced the stage following her win, in her mint green princess-style lace gown by Georges Hobeika. And, of course, there was live music, provided by the likes of British singer Charli XCX, R&B legend Mary J Blige, DJ Mark Ronson and rock group Imagine Dragons. The 22-year-old Boom Clap hitmaker had previously dazzled in an incredibly glamorous black Vivienne Westwood gown earlier in the evening. But she changed completely into a standout plaid suit for her on-stage moment also by the iconic punk designer which saw the superstar audience leap to their feat to get their groove on in style. She finished her daring look with a pair of dangerously towering black platform heels, while her long locks were worn down for the set.Charli was welcomed to the stage by models Adriana, Karlie and Irina. In the audience, Hollywood favourite Leonardo DiCaprio sat rather quietly in his tuxedo, his heavy, bushy beard failing to help him blend into the background.Meanwhile, Michelle Rodriguez was also in attendance and looking like she was having a whale of a time in the midst of the lavish auction.Throughout the evening, everybody got involved in the action.Kendall, Gigi, Jourdan and Karlie made their way up to the stage to auction off a private portrait by fashion photographer Mario Testino.Leonardo had donated a one-off classic Banksy piece for the auction, from his very own personal collection, so he no doubt wanted to make sure it went to a rightful owner… with a fitting high bid.Actor Adrien Brody also got involved, presenting a hand crafted bike by Redemption Choppers for the highest bidder, and opera star Andrea Bocelli auctioned himself off – or at least, a dinner hosted by the man himself for a winner and 11 of their pals. Also, the dresses worn by the model guests were one of the lots – each of the gorgeous gowns was ‘on sale’ at the auction, to be taken home by one lucky person, presumably one with a big enough wardrobe. The biggest bid of the night was on a Jeff Koons piece entitled Coloring Book, which went to one lucky bidder for an impressive impressive €12million, a huge donation to the charity. It was perhaps the most glamorous, star-studded and magnificent night ever hosted by amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research), but it was all for a good cause. They announced on their busy Twitter page during the night that, for all the glitz and fun shenanigans. The true meaning of the evening wasn’t to be forgotten: to end the disease that infects 6,000 young people worldwide, and has killed millions over the past few decades. The charity which has been running for over 30 years after being founded in 1983 has huge plans to find a cure for HIV/AIDs by 2020.
