President Museveni not going to allow land grabbing

President Yoweri Museveni
President Yoweri Museveni says he is to study the current chain of land grabbing, especially around city schools.

Addressing hundreds at City High School golden jubilee celebrations this morning in Kampala, he said the school, which he was visiting for the first time, has contributed to the development of the intellectual manpower of the country since it was founded by the Kololo community in 1964.

Museveni pledged to protect the school’s land, which the headmistress, Claire Nduhuura, said is on the verge of being grabbed by influential people.

“You want your land to be protected from land grabbers. That one I will protect. I want my staff to follow-up the issue with the headmistress and get details so that we can chase those people,” he said.

The President also pledged to work on the problem of teacher’s accommodation, organize a fundraising drive to help build the school’s library, computer lab and the sh3.3b complex, whose foundation he launched during his tour of the school.Museveni pledged sh80m towards the construction of the complex.

“In 1951 there were only four (4) schools in the whole of Country, Kings College Budo, St. Mary’s Colelge Kisubi, Ntare School and Gayaza High School. When the new government took over, it converted a number of junior secondary schools to senior secondary schools by 1965. Our government is committed to supporting education development in Uganda,” he said.
