Journalists in Bomet County Hold Demo Over Harassment, Call for Probe

Journalists in Bomet County took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the recent killing and harassment of their colleagues.

The protest paralysed business in Bomet as the journalists, drawn from the various media houses in the region, called for the arrest of those behind the misdeeds.

The protest comes in the wake of the killing of a journalist in Kitale and the mysterious death of another one in Kilifi last week.

A week ago, two journalists were beaten and left wounded and bleeding by security guards when they went to cover a demonstration against the alleged grabbing of a secondary school plot by Kakuzi Limited.

They called on the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to institute urgent investigations and bring the culprit to book in order to end the menace.

“No amount of intimidation will deter us from highlighting ills in the society,” Felix Kipkemoi of the Star said.

“We are guided by our professional ethics and so long as we go for fair comments in all that we do, we are always going to serve the masses without fear or favour,” he added.
