Ethiopia, Israel to Engage in Agriculture Sector

This annual trade event has positive effect on extending mutual cooperation between the two, and in creating opportunity to bring Israeli technologies and best practices to the Ethiopian agriculture sector.
An Israeli agro-business delegation consisting of 15 agri companies have arrived in Addis in a bid to establish network and partnership with their counterparts.
Opening the Ethio-Israel Agro-Tech Business Forum at Sheraton Addis yesterday, Agriculture State Minister Wonderad Mandefro said that this annual trade event has positive effect on extending mutual cooperation between the two, and in creating opportunity to bring Israeli technologies and best practices to the Ethiopian agriculture sector.
He added that Ethiopian counterparts will benefit from the rich experience of Israeli entrepreneurs by way of acquiring agricultural technologies as well as capacity building.
Mentioning the high stakes the agriculture sector plays in the overall economic performance and in alleviating poverty and sector’s immense potential, Wonderad said engagement with the new technologies of agricultural business and entrepreneurship will contribute to the upcoming second phase of the five year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP). “It has become important more than ever, to create networking and establishing this partnership with potential Ethiopian counterparts,” said the State Minister.
He concluded his remark by labeling the event as a ‘landmark’, and depicting the fact that both parties would have access to create opportunities for partnership and bilateral cooperation and an opening for further cooperation.
Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia Belaynesh Zevadia for her part said the event is principally designed to enhance the development of the agriculture sector in Ethiopia and strengthen the economic and technological ties between Ethiopia and Israel.
Highlighting on how a highly developed industry agriculture is in Israel and the fact that it is world leader in agricultural technologies and the emphasis the sector is given both by the Ethiopian government and the GTP, Ambassador Belaynesh expressed belief that the combined efforts of both can bring significant change to the two countries. “Today’s multifaceted agriculture sector and fast changing world calls for a close partnership,” she added.
On the occasion, the delegation head said that they are here with the belief that they can do better in Ethiopia with the help of their counterparts, and are happy to share their technology and experience here. The delegation includes companies from sectors of Dairy and fattening, poultry, green house construction, large and small scale water irrigation systems, fertilizers, farming, aquaculture and post-harvest.
