DRC members involved in LG polls to be removed from council

PESHAWAR: IGP Nasir Khan Durrani has ordered regional and district police officers to remove all those who are contesting local government elections or are directly or indirectly involved with the polls from the district resolution councils (DRC).

Through a written order from the Central Police Office (CPO), the IGP told policemen across the province there were widespread reports that some DRC members are going to contest local government elections. He said this was against rules and regulations so all such members should be removed from the DRCs.

The IGP directed regional police officers to select members for DRCs who have clean track records.

He added retired bureaucrats, lawyers, retired army men and educationists without political affiliations should be preferred.

Alternative resolution

DRCs have been established in all regional police headquarters and rooms have been set to hear the complaints of the general public.

Every case is handled by a three-member panel and if any party is dissatisfied with the progress, the matter can be referred to a special panel.

Around 30 senior lawyers, 65 retired civil and army officers, including majors, colonels, brigadiers, secretaries, special secretaries and additional IGPs, are members of councils.
